I've always been fascinated with the unknown, and love to imagine what sort of creature could be living there :3
Like, hahaa, it's not a Cthulu. I love the people who act like Lovecraft's stuff is real but... if it is an animal, I imagine it's like some left over specimen from an ancient age, or else a deformed whale. ahh! it's so much fun to think of the possibilities :D
there's a ton of these unknown sort of bloops, though.
I have another good Lovecraftian WTF for you... have you read At The Mountains Of Madness?
There's a range of mountains called the Gamburtsev mountains in Antarctica -- buried under like two miles of ice -- that no one can figure out how they were formed. And they were only discovered fairly recently. They're roughly the size of the Swiss Alps.
And the fun part is, they are located almost exactly where Lovecraft puts his Mountains of Madness.
Short version: Lovecraft wrote a short story in which he postulated the existence of an additional planet in the solar system, which superintelligent alien fungi were using as a base and which they called "Yuggoth." While he was still writing and just before he sent the story off to the publishers, Pluto was discovered.
