Sounds like things are starting to calm down, try to take time to relax and get to enjoy your new routine. Sounds like you are going to have to get use to having Nick around a lot more.
And I'm so happy that you and Nick have each other. I wish you much joy in these retirement years. :D
I see pockets of orange too - but not too many yet. Fall is fleeting here. It's going to happen very fast and then be gone. It's pretty while it's here, but sad when it's over.
I am more than ready for autumn. I wish it lasted longer than 2 months, but I guess that is longer than you have it in Alaska. So I'll be satisfied with 2 months. :)
I sort of miss dividing out the year by when school begins and stops. It was that way until Scott got out of college, and now there are no markers for me -- at least personal ones. In NY, school doesn't begin until the Wednesday after Labor Day. It's a "state thing" -- later than most. School also gets out later, too -- last week in June.
I'm glad that Nick is finding some help for his spinal stenosis and pulmonary issues. It's also good that he's accepting of his inability to go back to work, too. That's a huge change in a person's life, as you know. It's even a difficult change when it's your choice to stop working.
Routine is good. It's hard to function when you're not sure what's going to be up for each day. I'm glad things are calming down for you :)
I also agree with you - - fall can't come too soon. It's my favorite time of year, and I despise the heat. I don't see any changes in the leaves yet here, but we're further south...
When we were kids, school always started the Wednesday after Labor Day and got out towards the end of June. I kind of like the way it is for the kids, these days.
Disability sure is an adjustment, especially for menfolk, as they feel they are the "breadwinner", and have to "bring home the bacon"...(what strange phrases!)
Yep, I need some routine. Spontaneous is good, but with routine I feel more grounded.
Your leaves turning will be later. Like you say, you're further south.
I am not sure I like the new school year as well mainly because it's always so awful hot in August, and it's tough to concentrate on school work when it's like that. Plus -- June is usaully cooler. Or -- so it is around here. I suppose it doesn't matter as usually the school and a lot of our homes are air conditioned, but fall sports can be so hot.
I think many areas changed it because colleges were changing over to the August / May schedule for the school year. New York is the last hold out I think!
Grounding -- that's exactly why routine is helpful. I can handle some change as long as there is some grounding in my life. :)
Re: Routine Nick's been out on sick leave from work since July 19th. I can believe a whole month has gone by already. Though I know Nick needed me with him most of the time, I felt scattered because my routine was completely disrupted. I am now getting back some routine, alone time, quiet time, me time, and time to just BE, and it is feeling so good! He is getting back some of his mobility, self-sufficiency, and that feels great to him, too!

I'm glad he's doing OK, and that you're better, too! I'm so glad to hear it!

BTW, you're one of the teachers I was referring to above in my post.

Nick and I wanted to grow old together, so it looks like we're getting that chance.
