Sweetie's off

She's gone to Florida for a three-week training session. Last time she did this it wasn't a good thing, and Mom had to come over and kick me into shape after the first week. Mom is now in Ohio with my brother, his wife and their kids, so that's not an option ( Read more... )

It is worth it to just flea bomb one day.
it takes some prep work to get all food put away and things you don't want the bomb-ingredients to get on...but damn. You will be happy with the results.

Then the only thing left to figure out is the intended location of about 25 cats for that day. And the cost of the flea bombs, of course. :)

That's right. Not only do all the cats have to be outside, all the windows have to be closed. All the inner doors left open - would probably need at least 3 bombs, but all the food has to be put safely away. Perhaps all the bread into the oven along with the fruit ( ... )

I was actually counting 7 or 8 bombs.
1) bedroom
2) back room
3) bathroom
4) computer room (all computers off)
5) hall/laundry room
6) kitchen/dining room
7) living room

Last time anyone around me did this it took at least four hours, so I'm going to need to go somewhere reachable, and Mikey has to go somewhere stable because she can't simply be released (or we'll never find her again). I was thinking of either camping out at William's (provided there's a ride home) or at Cheryl's.

Thank you for reminding me about wiping down counters and dining room table. I simply failed to think of it.

Oh shit, and the plants are going to have to be moved as well, or they'll die.

Emotions I'm not so good at; material things more so.
Go into town. Maybe even ask Wm if you can stay the night; if so, leave the kitlings with enough provisions until tomorrow. You'll feel better with company.
RE: fleas If you can get a hold of some Avon Skin-So-Soft, lotion up and they'll stay off you. Otherwise, lavender or eucalyptus oil on your ankles will keep them from hopping up your legs. Vaccuum and throw away the bag. If you have loose lavender, pennyroyal, peppermint, cedar, lemongrass, rosemary or eucalyptus, sprinkle that around in the carpet and furniture and just leave it for a few days. Those won't kill the fleas, but it'll deter them down. Incense might help. You're not a preferred prey for the fleas, so you probably won't carry any to friends' houses. If you don't have any of those herbs, you can at least get peppermint and rosemary for cheap in the bulk section at the store near Wm, and possibly some of the others. I think he had some of the Avon stuff, so ask if he knows where it is.

They also seem to dislike tea tree oil

Will loose-leaf herbs drive fleas out of a house? I mean apart from cats going back and forth?

I don't know whether they'd eradicate the fleas completely. Probably not.
