This is fantastic, Tort! I of course love 'Rorschach is really a(n) _____' stories, more than I can ever say, but this also has that lovely, quiet quality to it where it's just not a big deal and Dan doesn't care and he's totally supportive and geeky and sweet <3

Thanks! It totally is a big deal to Dan, he's just being careful to space out all his bird nerd questions and bodily examinations so Rorschach doesn't kick him out right away XD

I never met a xenoschach I didn't like, but here I think the best thing is how he speaks up for himself - "Don't patronize me", "I'm onto you punk..." - just these little flashes of sass which are not at all like Rorschach's typical sharpness. He's speaking from a position of abjection or vulnerability but he knows himself and he's still a bit snappy, I've seen Walter the fanon character given that attitude a few times in other fanfics and always adored it.

anyway. When can we expect the sequel where he lays eggs? :DDD

In my head Rorschach always on the defensive about his xeno status, even if he thinks Dan's about to ditch him for it (the "don't patronize me part) or he's at a point where he can joke about it (the "I'm on to you" part).

I'd been wanting to write some Xenoschach for a while so I was very happy to get you as a recipient! I was thinking of things that hadn't been used for a xenoschach before, bird seemed appropriate, and everything else fell into place. And I love all the suggestions you listed anyway so it was a pleasure to write :)

Wonder if he's lighter when transformed, i.e, hollow bones?

I'd considered that too, but damn hollow bones would be really unfortunate for someone who gets into as many fights as Rorschach. Even though Rorschach's pretty useless when he's transformed anyway with his hands all clawlike. More reason to stay indoors with Dan :)

Dan already lives in a mental landscape of myths and legends, and as such is bound to be more fascinated than frightened at the idea of things like shapeshifters and talking animals.
