a big, jumbled mass of neuroses.

Cons have this strange ability to bring out every single one of my insecurities. I keep getting paranoid, neurotic, and near-weepy, all for silly, preventable reasons. Which is why I've spent most of the day napping at home instead of at the con. But I'll spare y'all the navel-gazing and instead talk about things that make me happy ( Read more... )

I dunno. Eko's stronger (mmm, yes), but Locke would totally fight dirty. ;)

A random note on double-pointed needles: if you hate them, don't give up, just switch your focus over to working on two circulars instead. Some people have no problems working with DPNs but others, like me, want to poke their eyes out at even the mention of DPNs. They just suck all the joy out of knitting for me. But since learning the basic method, I have just adapted everything over to 2 circs whenever DPNs are called for in a pattern - there is really no need to use them if you don't like them. Unfortunately, this has been so easy that I have grown totally addicted to sock knitting, and always have 2-4 pairs on the needles. I sometimes wonder if I'll ever knit a full-size garment again.

I recommend Cat Bordhi's book for learning the method, then Charlene Schurch's for patterns. Actually, I recommend the latter regardless, because every pattern is given in 3 formats (4-DPN, 5-DPN, and 2 circs) and she includes both top-down and toe-up patterns and really helpful deconstructions of what's going on in a sock ( ... )

Ooh, thanks for the heads-up. I'm about halfway through the sock, and while I'm not enamored of DPNs, it's not *too* terrible thus far. The biggest problem is the needles poking me. ;) Sock knitting is very addictive, though!

If I do attempt more socks, I'll definitely check out those books.

I love bagels too. They're like donuts, but without the "I'm going to die from a heart attack!" feeling afterwards.

My favourite bagels: Pumpernickel, sesame, poppy seed, marble, and plain.

Excellent way to describe it. ;) I tend to go for sweeter stuff, and Panera is marvelous for that -- french toast, dutch apple, cinnamon crunch, blueberry... yum.
