summary: Maybe she’s not desperately slutty after all, Ruby wonders, watching David through the half-open bathroom door, maybe she’s just the only one who cares enough to be on suicide watch around the clock.
Ruby turns around in bed and is listening to the sounds from the shower. Her head is pounding and her self-respect has hit the floor once again.
Not for the first time she wonders how the hell the curse seemed fit to make her a bit of a slut. She’s fairly certain she didn’t use to be one, though those memories are still a bit hazy and uncomfortably mingled with about a dozen different adaptations of fairytales that aren’t quite right. She remembers being rather stubborn and just a touch rebellious even back then, and she did sneak out in the middle of the night, but it was always one boy, always Peter and here it’s all sorts of men that are just as lost as she was, is, always will be?
Her bright red bra is lying discarded on the floor next to her black thong which she doesn’t actually remember taking off. Well...
There are no actual hookers in Storybrooke. Ruby finds that rather interesting. She wonders what happened to the girls that worked in taverns and would do anything for a coin or a smile or the promise of a life that would never come true, wonders whether the curse was a philanthropist or simply a prude.
In any way, the role had to be filled after all. With so many princes (and princesses) walking around with all dreams crushed and all hopes lost. Someone had to step in and just be there on nights they hit rock bottom and alcohol just wasn’t enough anymore. Maybe she’s not desperately slutty after all, Ruby wonders, watching David through the half-open bathroom door, maybe she’s just the only one who cares enough to be on suicide watch around the clock.
Maybe even Snow will see it that way.
Thinking of her makes Ruby feel nauseous and she pulls the covers over her head to hide from what she’s done, because the real, horrible, painful truth is Snow actually might even thank her one day for standing beside Charming, and Ruby is not sure if she could physically survive that.
