A legal opinion on Prop 8

I went to law school with this guy, who now teaches at NYU.  We were in a seminar on sexual orientation and the law, taught by Bill Rubenstein, together.

Kenji doesn't seem to think much of the new lawsuit to block enforcement of  Prop 8.  He thinks the only way to get it overturned is to go federal, which no one in their right mind would do in the ( Read more... )

Have you been following the NY State Senate situation? Nobody's willing to say anything about SSM here right now, because the margin of control is so tight and there's a bit of a rebellion brewing in the Dem ranks over the leadership vote, but we have control of both houses and the governorship for the first time in half a century, and things look good for bringing an SSM law to the floor this session.

And if we hold the Senate now and 2010, we have a lock on redistricting, so we'll be in very strong shape for holding long-term control.

I did see the amazing news about the Senate, and the stuff about leadership. It's so great -- has NY even had a Democratic senate in our lifetimes?
