Interesting that those are the two authors with multiple books, not that they don't deserve to be - quite the opposite! :) Still, the likes of Cornell, Miles, Orman, Roberts, Russell, just to name a few, all had multiple strong entries imho over the life of the NAs and EDAs (not Mr Gatiss, unfortunately - I think he only wrote one truly great Who novel, and later on a couple of quite nice, but not great, ones). I wonder if fan-politics didn't play a role in a couple of those authors not polling more highly (Miles, in particular, was probably the most unique talent of the EDA-era authors, even if not to everyone's taste - he did not, however, and still does not Play Well With Others ( ... )

Most of those you list do have at least one appearance, though I can see why they don't get more as they all have their own writing styles which will not appeal to everyone (Roberts is Silly, Cornell is glacial, Russell is fannish, Orman won't really write in character, and Miles is batsh*t crazy) but it's true a number of them do tend to annoy fans ( ... )

I just read this last year and LOVED it to itty bitty pieces. Now, I'm really quite distressingly bad at remembering character names, but I recall Debbie even months later and got so attached to her over the course of the book that I was just bawling by the end. Mainly, because it seemed to go on for longer than just one book. They way it was laid out and with so much packed in there. It felt like a whole series onto itself.

I also remember it because I was getting annoyed at the stuck-on-earth arc by this point and wanting Fitz back... yet the book maintained my interest so well that I would've gladly delayed the Fitz reunion just to see more of Eight, Miranda, and Debbie having their strange little family and having adventures. Alas, such things are never meant to be.
