If someone could cling to a room, John would be doing so. But, since he can't, he settling for hugging doors and appliances in between throwing the last of his things in bags.

He'd miss 238. And other things. But 238 mostly. Maybe.

"I almost wish I was randomly 5 again and could beg for one last pony ride," Aly teased as she came around into the door frame. She was grinning, sunburned, and rather happy they'd made it back in time.

If John jumped it was only because she was a teacher and not because she was the teacher with the knives. Anyway, he covered it well. Mostly.

He turned around and said, "If we tried that now, I think you'd be arrested and I'd be maimed beyond recognition."

Aly laughed. "Gods forfend. I'll have to live without."

"You were a cute five year old," John said. "I'd do it again if you turned small. If I had longer hair, I'd let you braid it."

"I am Alanna's daughter," Aly pointed out, still laughing. "You might just get the chance."

[whitedeathpod]

"If it happens, just don't tie my hair in knots," he said. "Did you get your remarkably good sense of humor from her? Most teachers would've killed me for the pregnant thing alone."

Aly laughed. "Are you trying to flatter me so I won't kill you before you leave?"

"Absolutely," John said, nodding. "Killing me wouldn't be fun. Because, then Aeryn would be sad and there'd be no wedding for you to attend."

"You are pulling out all the stops," Aly said. She paused. "And you're almost making me feel bad about revenge."

"Revenge?" He made sure he was hidden behind some boxes. "You don't have any knives on you, do you?"

"Would I wear knives up to the school?" she asked sweetly. "Besides I already have a revenge planned."

"Really?" He knew this wouldn't work but what the hell. "Tell me about it."

"You don't think that would spoil the surprise?"

[whitedeathpod]

"I will be surprised once you spring the revenge," he said. "I make a good surprised face."

And thus, he demonstrated.

"No, it'll be more fun this way," Aly said, laughing at the surprised face. "You guys are leaving tonight?"

"Yep," he said, going serious again. "Aeryn's in the gym. I'm packing stuff up here. Two years of my life ends tonight."
