To draw a map of a child’s mind.

Doctors sometimes draw maps of other parts of you, and your own map can become intensely interesting, but catch them trying to draw a map of a child’s mind, which is not only confused, but keeps going round all the time. There are zigzag lines on it, just like your temperature on a card, and these are probably ( Read more... )

Oh, I am all misty-eyed!

I love how you wrote this in Sam's POV, and how I could just see the others exactly as you wrote it...and your Cas is perfect!

Now I'm going to be greedy and ask for more, maybe when she's two, or six, and we see what each of them has contributed to Joanna's personality. (And naming her that was brilliant and exactly right!)

It was going to be Dean's POV originally, just because the impulse for writing the story came from DEAN+BABY=WIN. But it's far more interesting from Sam's, I think, partly because he doesn't get that immediate BABY YES BABY MUST LOOK AFTER BABY response that Dean does. And also, of course, because it's cuter looking through Sam's eyes at Dean+baby being cute together than it is just looking down through Dean's eyes at the baby and being informed IT IS SO CUTE. Especially for people who don't have that immediate YESBABY reaction themselves.
(Which was an interesting headspace to try to get into, because I am definitely a baby person myself.)
No immediate plans for more, but I never rule out the possibility. :)

This story is just so perfect I cannot even.... I have two grandchildren of my own and can tell you that you have perfectly reflected the way they are, not to mention our feelings towards them. Thanks for the wonderful reminder. Good Luck Boys! Wait til the teething starts! <3

Ow, teething. Although that isn't as bad as the baby who just can't sleep through the night until almost two years old. But yes - babies are many things, and cute is only one of them, and they are perplexing and mysterious and all-consuming and feel so strangely vast. Plus, you know, kind of a lifestyle adjustment.

I love kidfic in theory, but so often it completely fails to work. So I was a little tentative about it - but it was written on the occasion of Danneel posting That Tweet, so I was busy having happy baby thoughts, the same way I do when anyone I know (for a given value of know) has a baby. :)
