Whoops, There goes my Amphora

Coo! The Guardian is not joking when it highlights the goings on in the current season of Rome!

Already this week (two episodes) we've had Mark Antony refusing to get out of bed "until I've been fucked" with girlfriend rustling up a slave girl for the deed.
A very vigorous episode of gay sex.
Someone having their brains smashed out.
Several beatings ( Read more... )

It is a very good series, looking forward to the next episode myself too. It is good to actually see the seedier side of Rome as well as the glorius side we often get force fed in film etc... They certainly had no qualms about exercising their more basic instincts :-D I am glad the BBC are screening it as well at least there are no commercial breaks.

As The Guardian says you wouldn't do it yourself but it's fun to watch!
Actually the lack of commercial breaks is a problem for me - last night one of the kids wanted to be tucked into bed and I'm telling them "Not yet - I've got to see Vorenus find his children!" (and all the kids were banned from coming into the room where I was watching as well, even the 15 year old! as I reckon this has got to rate an 18)

I am lucky... no kids and I figure the dogs don't care what I watch on TV... LOL

I think when I was at home my bedtime was the main censor of programmes. Up until my mid-teens I was expected to be in bed at 9pm on a night when I had school the next day and from about 15 I had to be in bed at 10pm. The first dodgy scene I rememebr seeing while watching TV with my parents was the sex scene in "The Singing Detective" TV series, I was so embarrassed... LOL Not sure if my mum would have allowed me to watch Rome... I know she choose to telephone me with a computer problem part way through lastnights episode... damnherforringingthen... GGGRRRRRR

My Dennis Potter moment with my mum was one of the characters in "Pennies in Heaven" covering her nipples with lipstick!
By the time of "The Singing Detective" I had my own place - bliss!
Potter was our main source of tv smut in those days wasn't he? And think of the flak he took over that and compare it with "Rome" - amazing but it does mean I have to think what the kids are watching!

Rome's great, I got bored of waiting for the second series and watched it all at tv-links.co.uk.

I wasn't entirely convinced by the new Octavian tho. Young Octavian was just so damn cool.

On the other hand, Vorenus and Pullo's reign of terror over the Aventine was damn good telly.

I love the fact you can go to tv links and watch huge lumps of tv in one go.

Yes - they made the Sopranos look like pussies.

God, I hate TV Links with a violent passion. I've wasted the entire of the past month due to that site...

In Britain - Parliamentary democracy and cutting off the heads or otherwise reducing the power of the great families but you don't have to go far back into British history to find them behaving like this!
Go anywhere where family clans or tribes vie for power and I bet you will find the whole lot going on - human nature I'm afraid.

I have the first season on my Netflix queue. I have never seen an episode but I've seen some previews and it looks like a fantastic series. And the men look pretty damn hot too.

Yes the men are hot - and sweaty and dirty and frequently covered in blood. Once seen never forgotten!
