So basically... four more years? Bush's third term?

That's what I'm guessing - though I hope to God I'm wrong.

Yeah - I'm told it started with Sen. Joseph McCarthy. Some legacy.

I hope you're right. I really do. But don't necessarily judge everyone by your own rod. I don't particularly like McCain or Clinton (though many do) - but I dislike Obama. I may not be in the majority (though we'll see how he does if people don't have Clinton to kick around any more), but I've met quite a few people here in Pennsylvania that find Obama arrogant, smarmy, and/or cloying - and McCain has a lot of positives here.

And do, please, bear in mind the race issue. Put two moderately likable candidates on stage, one of them black, and which one will voters in America go for? I wish I shared your optimism.

By the same token, put two moderately likable candidates on stage, one of them a woman, and which one will voters in America go for, especially at a time of war? And with all of her associated negatives? And a Clinton machine that, thus far, has been relatively unable to deliver on a clear, coherent, and inspiring message, whether hollow or not?

I think Obama is actually more electable, and his turnout has shown that... not to mention Democratic turnout generally.

Though, I do very well understand he is at risk for a fall, but even then, I don't think Hillary has much of a chance. If she were to win the primaries, how would she change her message? She'd no longer be the "Experienced" candidate. Plus, if she were the candidate, I think that's the best thing to get the Republican machine (particularly the radio talk show hosts), as well as Rove's base, back behind McCain.
