Hello all! I just joined, I have a silly beginner's question:
How do you crochet a spiraled chain? I don't know the technical term (i guess if i did i could google a tutorial), I'm trying to make something that looks like the pink octopus' tentacles:

Hmmm. There are several ways to achieve a spiral similar to that.

One way is to loosely chain however many stitches plus one, then turn and crochet your first row (in single crochets) with a smaller hook. That will make it curl up.

But that pattern looks to me like they just worked two double crochets into each chain to create the spiral.

Yea, what SarahMascara said! If I were doing it without a pattern, I would use her first suggestion.

Don't get too frustrated with that pattern. That is not the format of most of the patters for amigurumi. That is sort of a hybrid between the Japanese style pattern and the American style.

Your first octopus is really cute! Great job on it! Welcome to the community and to the obsession! -__^

I just chain how ever long you want it (make it a little longer since the size will shrink with curling)
and then turn and go back and it creates curling...

this works perfect but i would only reccomend this if its for you or as like a decoration...
I made a couple of octopi (lol) for my preschool class and now they kinda look like jellyfish they've played with their legs so much hehe :)

the way i see her pattern is
c13(or however many more depending on length)
dc1 into 2nd stitch from hook
dc2 into the rest of the stitches

hope it works :3

make the chain about twice as long as you want the finished item, then go back and work 3 sc in each chain, makes an nice twist.
