Behind Efferton Manor, Early Friday Morning (Before Sunrise)

You could smell it before you saw it. Ozone, a scorched electrical smell, wafted through the air, carried by the sudden wind that picked up in the immediate area.

A crack echoed from nowhere, followed by small crackles. Finally, Efferton Manor's back yard lit up, blue and white electricity leaping out from a central point, eventually forming a solid ball a few feet from the ground.

As quickly as the ball of light appeared, it blinked out of existence, leaving its contents to fall to the ground flat on his face.

Every muscle in Kyle Reese's body screamed at him, more tense and taut than they had ever been, electrified and twitching. This is what being born must feel like, he thought as he tried to recover from the agonizing pain and sensory overload.

The last of the tendrils of the Time Displacement Field faded away, leaving steam and smoke and the naked boy as the only indications that it was ever there.

"Get up," Kyle ordered himself through gritted teeth. "Get up get up get up." It took a few more tries, but his body responded and he pushed himself to his feet. He peered into the dark, shivering.

Kyle knew his mission: find the school, do what he was told, be better, wait for word from Command HQ. Specifically, wait for word from Connor.

But first he had to find some clothes.
