Hello all, the question has finally presented itself and now we are ring shopping! I know we want a solitaire but I'm leaning more towards something low profile, something that doesn't stick up so much ( Read more... )

Congrats on your engagement!
My fiance actually completely surprised me - he picked out the diamond and then had it set in a ring on his own. I totally didn't know the proposal was coming. When I first saw the ring, I thought it was very large (lucky me, right!) and thought I would never get used to it, but I have. I have a very traditional setting for my solitare.

Here's a creative profile picture a friend took. The C3P0 figure is probably about 1.5 inches tall.

That is such a gorgeous ring. I'm a sucker for classic solitaires!

Congratulations!!!

I've been engaged for almost 3 months and I still don't have my ring. It took about a month to find the design I loved and then there were holidays, work and also the ring had to be customized, so I finally saw the wax of the ring last week and it'll be another 4 weeks before I get it.

Here's the original picture of the ring - I fell in love with it, but it was too big to wear with a wedding band

Thank you :) I hope so... I am a bit worried since I only saw a wax mold of it and never the real thing. I'll post it here once I get it!

I wish I'd known what to call that! I wanted a bezel or basket setting, with some prongs for additional security, but definitely with the stone NOT sticking up. What I got was they set the stone in a typical solitaire setting and then built the band up, like a bridge on either side, with the baguettes set into it. From the side I think it looks like a fortress, and I kind of don't like it.... :( But from the top it looks great, and it's better than the center stone riding high and dry all on its own, so whatever!

I was surprised by how easily my ring (which is quite high-profile) fits into gloves. I wear my leather cold-weather gloves AND my rubber dish-washing gloves on top and they fit easily. It probably helps that I have small hands.

I have a Tiffany setting princess cut solitaire. It's pretty no frills. It originally had a carriage setting which stuck up so high and was really ugly to my eye. I like my ring but wish I had taken some time and really looked for something a bit more unique. I do love how low the setting is though.

Sorry for the Hello Kitty bandaid! Paper cut. Also, for the large pictures. Just took them and have to head off to work.
