I don't need a hovercar

Sometimes it hits me just how jaded we have become.

Technology is advancing so quickly that we just sort of expect it, take it for granted or focus on the continued minor inconveniences. A couple years back, I fell into a brief stint of all-consuming veneration of my iPod, not because I possess that all-too-prevalent consumerist need to flaunt ( Read more... )

Speaking of "RealDoll" Charlie.... brokn2pieces September 24 2007, 21:43:40 UTC
Have you watched the BBC feature on "RealDolls" and their users? Interesting.

That is the saddest fucking thing I think I have ever seen.

I was aware of RealDolls but I'd never seen a documentary on people's... relationships... gah. SAD.

You know, as sad as I feel it is, I still take consolation in the fact that the individuals in question are not breeding. RealDolls seem like a more humane (albeit expensive) alternative to much-needed sterilization.

It's more captivating than interesting... In the sense that it's too predictable to be interesting (hmm, how many RealDoll owners still live at home), but still I cannot tear myself away.

I know you're being sarcastic, but you do realize there is in fact such a critter right? It's called SlingBox. Plug it into your cable and into your wireless router, and you can serve your TV crap to the crapper (or to anywhere in the world, if you've forwarded it through your router for internet access).

Big Media fucking HATES those things with a screaming purple passion.

Which is why EchoStar (Dish Network satellite TV) just announced that they're buying Sling Media.

Sony also has a product called LocationFree. I believe they're going to upgrade it to be HDTV capable "soon."

Of course being surrounded by computer engineers all day, at least one of my coworkers has one. He was using it on his mobile device while we were at the Buffalo Wing Factory. Really irritating trying to have a conversation with him at the time.

I suppose the difference is becoming academic at this point, but I want to watch my TV on a TV, not a computer. I guess I could just have a monitor in my john though.

It would be a lot scarier if "I live with my parents..." was followed by him gesturing toward a male and female RealDoll.

Isn't "wireless television" that archaic beast involving rabbit ear antennae and a console television the size of a circus fat lady's coffin that we had to watch at Grandma's because she refused to get something modern, in color, cable-ready and easily movable?

"Why do you need Music Television?" she'd snap, "You have a boom box or whatever you little bastards call transistor radios now... Hand me that shaker, baby."
