Signs you're still alive

I knew I wasn't dead when the anesthesia was wearing off and the doctor kept calling my name, trying to get me to respond.

He was butchering it, and he'd mispronounced it five or six times before my irritation overcame my desire to sleep. My lip curled, my forehead creased.
