I've been reading through the blogs of a few of my friends from college days ... one is a musician; one, a poet; one, a philosopher.  It makes me smile to read their words ... I don't have any advice, I am sorry. Do you have more friends who are in a similar situation, who finished their education and still want to learn? Maybe they have some tipps. Are there single classes you could maybe take, in the evenings?

I think Shadie's suggestion of auditing a class is a great one. You might also see if you can't find a book discussion group....

You are not pathetic and inferior!!! I think it is great that you can recognize what you are missing because you can't do anything about it if you don't know what has you feeling down.

Maybe you could start your own book discussion group.

My other suggestion would be to look into some adult education classes. They offer them here through the public school system (and they are usually reasonably priced) and even though they might not have exactly the type of class you are looking for, you might be surprised to find out that you enjoy something you never thought about before. A few years ago I took a class on electrical wiring. I have no desire to become an electrician, but it is very satisfying to know that I finished the class and have done a few minor projects around the house like replacing some outlets and stuff like that.

I like Shadie's idea of taking a class or two at a local college.
And you're not pathetic! I think it would be hard for me, I'd miss the challenge, too...
