Dude, the show got me and my wife hooked on the book. Just bought the first one this past weekend. Will start sweeping through the entire series this summer.

Oddly enough, I haven't seen the show as I do not have HBO. Was waiting for HBO to release it on iTunes and I would watch it there.

The show by itself is -incredible-. I can't say how decent it is in comparison to the books, but the first episode alone was enough to convince us to hunt the first book down. Jennie gets it first, I get it second. We've watched the entire first season of "Game of Thrones", and I'll lay a bet that you won't be disappointed by the show. After I've read it, I'll update you if my opinion on this has changed. :)
