Hot Toddy

Yesterday, I was stuck at home with a horrible cold.  Sniffly, sad, and pouty.  I laid on the couch, surrounded by rumpled kleenex and supervised by the dog.

A friend sent me a hot toddy recipe with the promise that it would make me feel much better.  I tweaked it (for science!) and I must admit, she was right.  I did feel better.  Enough to mooch ( Read more... )

I'm sorry you don't feel well! *hugs*

Hmmm, I used to avoid liquor when I had a cold, because it made my mucous membranes feel worse. Now I'm not supposed to have it at all. I'm not sure what I'll do next time I have a cold: I used to mainline "brew" made according to my sis-in-law's general outline: tea (often decaf), citrus juice, honey, and ginger, but that's probably too much sugar for me these days. Bummer.

I often can't have liquor, but I'm off some of the meds at the moment, so I was able to (when I can't I make something like your sis in law's brew). It used to be that I'd take decongestants, but while they still work for the sinus headache, they now give me nosebleeds (gee, helpful) and a nasty overall reaction. For me the honey really helps with the throat/nose thing, but it makes sense that you can't have it. Could you use agave syrup I wonder?
