[The PCD is on a nightstand, its angle half-blocked by a book. The cover identifies it as The Embarrassment of Riches: An Interpretation of Dutch Culture in the Golden Age. Carmen is sleeping fitfully, wrapped in a red comforter. She tosses and turns for a few minutes before she wakes up with a start and her arm lashes out. Book and PCD alike are ( Read more... )

[The PCD turns on after a few moments.]

Jiraiya? I do not understand. When?

You mentioned it being a new week, and complicated, and something about holding on to a belief about it. Also, your PCD was facing the wrong way. Is something wrong?

Did I?

I... see. It recorded when I was unaware.

Yes. I would say that things are amiss. But I believe it is simply an event, and I shall hold on to that belief.

I've saved you the trouble of locking this thread, since you seem like you're in no position to do so, by the way.

The Animus spoke of a price, Carmen. ...I'm not affected by the event, apparently, so can I ask you a question about its effects?

[Her voice is dry, amused.]

I take it that I insufficiently locked my conversation with Jiraiya, then. At least I can count on being grounded should I overestimate myself, Kakashi?

You may.

Hm...I guess you can. And yes, you didn't have it locked well enough, but you admitted nothing worse than I could more or less gather from your fumbling around.

...It's going to sound odd, but did you die?

This is complicated. I am endeavoring to make this function properly.

I... I do not think so. I believe it was a dream. Otherwise, I cannot explain too many things, the least of which being why only a few hours have passed instead of the two weeks that encompassed the scenario in which I died.

I knew my book had been on the nightstand, and expected to find it after waking so suddenly. Instead I discovered my PCD.

... Shouldn't you have seen the PCD there, Carmen-san ?

I am not able to secure replies at this time. Would you mind making the converation secure, Commander?

Even if it's not yours, it still looks like an interesting lecture.

I am not sure I understand... Oh, pardon. Now I do. The book on Dutch culture is indeed mine.

My comment regarding my book was in reference to finding the PCD where I thought the book may have landed.

Perhaps you switched them in the middle of night? Happens sometimes.
