And yet another SDK fan! (Where were they all hiding when I wanted to talk about vol. 22?)
It was my first manga and is still my favorite, even though I am frantically trying to educate myself about the genre by reading lots of different ones.

It's really interesting to watch how Kamijyo lets the characters evolve and change. Watch Bontenmaru, for example (like Benitora, he doesn't get that much appreciation). The look on his face as he bids farewell for Muramasa is just really great, and touching. Who'd have thought he'd be that way, given how he was first encountered just a few volumes ago, peeping at Yuya and Okuni as they bathed?
Shinrei's another one who's going to change a geat deal (and yet in some ways, not at all ... ;-D ) as the series progresses.

Argh, I guess I do have to check out the anime as well. I'm not that much of an anime fan, but I will watch the ones that really get my attention...

I have to say I'm not at all tempted by the anime ... most of the people who really like the manga seem to sort of plug their ears and go "la, la, la, I can't hear you!" when folks mention the anime. Kamijyo-sensei's drawings apparently didn't make the transition that well (the screen shots I've seen look awful) and the plot got really simplified.
When you run out of books, if you can't stand the wait, sanada & co. have posted scans, translations, and scanlations of the last volumes at hana-me.net.

Thank you very much for the scanlation tips!
