You know, I think I may like this series even better than Staring at the Sun, because it's a point of view we don't usually get to see. Caroline's there when Sonny needs to see her but she's really pushed out of the way in the series, and it's refreshing to get her thoughts on the impact Sonny still has on her life. Even though she has her own life now, she's still connected to him and not just through Billy. This piece is very raw and very personal, and it makes me feel weary and used-up just reading it.
On a happier note:
You’re the first cop I ever met who was prettier than Sonny.
Caroline's right, it's the wrong thing to say, but it did make me smile. Though for male TV cops, Sonny wins hands down for prettiness, oh yes. ^_^
ah, you're gonna spoil me, with such feedback (and so quick!)
Thanks!
I love Caroline. Yes, she was marginalized on the show, but what we did get of her was endlessly interesting, because her character was never a doormat, and seemed to have her own life, and her relationship with Sonnie was never simple - in a less complex show she would have been angry and blamed him for everything that went wrong between them, and that's not what Caroline was about.
i know i say it all the time but if i don't say it, you won't feel encouraged. your stories are amazing and you have such a terrific feel for the characters & hold on their emotions. Great job...
This is my favorite Miami Vice fic ever. Ever. I love the complexity of Caroline's character and the love she still feels for Sonny. At the same time, Gina is a character with dimension even though we only see what Caroline sees of her.
You really captured the feeling I've always had that Gina and Sonny had a special bond, as well as the bond Sonny and Caroline could never break.
