Gortex fabric works by being stretched in a way that creates a barrier that is porous to water vapour but has holes too small for droplets. It is usually backed to a wicking layer that you really want on the inside. So yes, but it will get much heavier and not breath as well.

Similar fabrics, I have no idea.

that company or Rohan stuff or an Event fabric are the only things I will use.

(FYI Paramo is also the choice of the Welshish (Breconish) mountain rescue lot - they were offered freebie stuff from other manufacturers or a discount off Paramo. They bought Paramo. there you go, enjoy :)
