maple syrup search

I know maple syrup can be filterd through lard...Is there a brand to look for? I searched the store tonight and I found organic and natural...I would love some syrup for my pancakes and french toast...Lately I use apple sauce on top but it gets old fast!

Most maple syrup companies don't use lard anymore in the process, but buying organic is the easiest way to avoid potential lard use completely.

is there no organic lard? :)

yeah, I'm pretty sure most maple syrup is vegan-friendly these days. ^_^

Maple syrup was never "filtered" through lard. During the boiling process maple sap sometimes foams. Oil (traditionally from lard) was sometimes used to control the foaming when it was too high.

That being said, lard is pretty much never used any more, especially in Quebec, and hasn't been for something like 50 years. Even when it was, it was something like one drop to roughly eight gallons.

If you want to be sure however, have a look for Kosher certified maple syrup, as it is very unlikely to contain any animal products.

Gross, I hope it isn't filtered through lard.
