I was planning to order my computer today but I decided I'd reach out to you, brilliant Internets, and get any last minute feedback on the system specs.

I always liked running smaller-capacity raptors striped for the system software and for holding files while processing. load times are much improved and handling is great, and when you get done with the files you can offload them to the slower drives.

I would love to do Raptors in a stripe, but that's just too expensive. The consensus is that **nothing** comes close to touching them! I'm thinking with just the single raptor I'll get the performance boost I desire for day-to-day activities (opening/closing proograms, browsing the internet, etc)

when i got mine, i paid $300/each for the 36GB size. Now, I think you can get the pair for that price. I never had problems with capacity on the 68GB or something that I get after the formatting is applied. I tell you, it's truly nice. I think for the 74's, though, they changed the spindle bearings or something for less noise and additional reliability. I'm not sure if they brought that feature down to the 36's. I'm considering getting a pair of the new 74s to stripe for the os/apps and using the 36's as a PS scratch disk, but i have to overhaul the rest of the system first because with a dozen or so hard drives I totally have all my hookups full.

If I remember correctly, the 74 and 150 raptors are very similarly priced... :)

Ummm.... make one for me too. Okay thanks.

Actually, for just under $1500 you've built one hell of a system. Not too insane in any one category, yet strong enough in all categories to support your needs for the next 2 to 4 years.

I love my Intel Core Duo, though mine is markedly slower than the one you are considering (the 6300 at 1.86Ghz).

Thanks! I hope so! I can't wait to use the Duo - perfect for improving my workflow productivity!

Considering the heatsink and quality components, I'm thinking of overclocking this bad boy. Thoughts?

So my boyfriend is building a comp as well and here's his $.02.

Case - Awesome case, but pricey, you can probably get a better deal that's just as good.

Processor - FYI the new AMD quad optoron processor is coming out soon and will smoke any core 2, but the one you have is still freaking awesome.

Fan and hard drives are "bomber"

Power supply - You don't really need to do 700W. If you want a clean highly reliable one go for SeaSonic

Video Card - Um ew! Hehe... The 8600GT or 8600GTS has Direct X 10 and smokes this thing for an extra $50. SLI can be buggy on certain games, pay the extra money on a better card now and consider SLI later.

-Lucas (as relayed, most accurately, by Stefanie)

My $.02. Ooooo the blue is so pretty.

Power supply - from what he's heard, the SeaSonic is amazing, but if you've been reading reviews about the other ones he said to go for it because he isn't as up to date on power supplies. The main reason he likes it is that it has the highest efficiency rating as any power supply - cooler electronic, lower electricity bills ( ... )
