A GIRL born sometime around noon, 6 lb 10 oz (what a strapper considering how early she is!), name still under contemplation, she and my sister both in good health!!

For those keeping track, this makes two nephews and five nieces for me! (To quote Veronica Mars: can it be considered an embarrassment of riches if I'm not embarrassed? ;D )

Me: "Did you have a nice time at Sunday School, kids?"
Niece and nephew: "Yeah."
Me: "What did you do?"
Anna: "We learned about Baby Jesus and a bad king!"
Me: "Oh, interesting!"
Anna: "Arthur, the king. He was very bad."

My nephew gets home from Kindergarten and runs to me:

"Auntie, look at the Christmas tree that I made! The star glows in the dark, and the alligator's eating cheese..."

Last night my folks and I watched an old movie called The Clock starring Judy Garland. I got it because after Foyle's War, this premise sounded thrilling to me: soldier on leave for 2 days in NYC before shipping out has a chance encounter with a girl who agrees to spend the day with him, and they fall in love. My Dad is watching a tv movie called The Derby Stallion, starring Zac Efron.

This is weird. I have the urge to watch Hallmark-type movies. Not a normal urge for me. I think I'm grateful the library doesn't seem to carry any.

As it turns out, my New Year's Eve wasn't bad at all. I managed to knock off two applications (only five left!) and was so busy that staying in didn't feel defeatist at all.
