By the time I got to the first interlude I was in excruciating anxiety over what was going to happen to the boys and Cas! Really tightly crafted plot and very vivid writing!

The ending is stunning. It is absolutely heartwrenching, and breathtaking, and I think it broke things inside me because it hurt so so much. I have never cried so much over a book, and I mean NEVER. I just know that the world will right itself eventually, will find a way to a new normal and happy, and there still was this feeling of “they went through so much and now they’re dead and Cas is alone” - even though it probably does make me sound all of five years old. Lucky for me, I decided to read it in the evening, so there was pretty much no one around to watch me sob my eyes out and fall to pieces well into the wee hours of the morning.
(actually, that’s pretty much the reason for this review being so late - this is how long it took me to catch my breath and at least try to rein in the going-nuts-and-falling-all-over-the-place emotions ( ... )

Just like you, I couldn't see Dean react any other way. Him living on without Sam until his time was up simply would not have made him happy, and the fact that he knew he'd see Sam in heaven certainly helped.
I'm glad you liked the last line. Last lines are hard, especially after so long a story. You just kind of want them to sound good, if nothing else.
I sort of imagine Castiel telling people about Sam and Dean and everything that happened, and those people tell it to other people and so on, and the stories change a little bit every time until they become myths and no one really believes anymore that that really happened, but they keep telling the stories. I think Cas would be okay with that.
Thank you for your wonderful comment!

Of course Dean will find Sam again in heaven, he always does. Dean has fought earth, hell, and heaven to have Sam back. He wouldn't be Dean otherwise.
