I am SO with you on this, and you expressed it perfectly. I can't believe that they even have the nerve to try to do this! And what is up with Hollywood remaking TV shows???? Bewitched? Starsky and Hutch? Dukes of Hazzard? Hello...yeah. Stupid. It just proves how many morons work there.
Thank you. I'm so glad I'm not alone on this one. They're just remaking everything now because no one has an original idea (Bewitched made me so sad because I used to watch that show all the time on Nick At Nite when I was little). If they can't sequel it, they prequel it or remake it. With really bad actors (Dukes of Hazzard, WTF?).
We should create a coalition of angry Trek fans and rally at the Pramount lot (not that I'm anywhere near there, but oh, I'd find a way) to protest their stupidity.
Luckily... the Bowie raising his eyebrows is.... helping to... distract me....
that was my initial reaction. though, on the plus side, basically the entire team that made Lost is the group slated to do it. so, I mean, they're good filmmakers and shit.
Yeah, I saw who it was. Still doesn't change the fact that they've hired an entire team who had never worked on a single Star Trek project in their lives. I understand they're trying to find new blood to keep the franchise going, but really, these guys are not getting into this for the long hall. They're not going to turn into the new Star Trek team, it's a one time thing. And I'm not sure they really understand the sensitive ground they're striking on.
It's really the no Shatner and Nimoy aspect that has me totally pissed. That's just not okay by any stretch of the imagination.
Kelsey said it best: the movie sounds like a bad fanfic. And it does. It really does.
JJ Abrams is a really good filmmaker- if MI3 doesn't suck, he'll be the reason, and he's also the man behind Lost and Alias, my two favorite shows. The fact that he's doing a Star Trek movie doesn't really bother me, because I think he'd be able to do the franchise some good (take Casino Royale, for example- they're trying to make the Bond franchise not a joke by putting in a really good actor as Bond, and making it gritty as all fuck. Remove all the bad innuendo and replace it with Guy Richie sensibility).
That is, if the premis wasn't a prequel using different actors. That part will probably make it suck- I keep on imagining Dumb and Dumberer. *shudder*
