March 24th 2007 is Shut Down Day.

It is obvious that people would find life extremely difficult without computers, maybe even impossible. If they disappeared for just one day, would we be able to cope

if you want to experience just how pervasive they are, you would also have to:

not drive

not consume power

not watch TV

radio is dubious - nearly all tracks, ads, jingles, etc. are queued from mp3

look at anything around you that's mass produced - computers involved and very probably embedded if it's got a plug attached to it

not use the telephone

replay twilight-zone reruns in your head

True. I think for me the concept is more about reminding people that there is a world outside their monitor. A world with trees that aren't on youtube and people outside of myspace.
