The original request for that fic was "Ten times they had sex on a piano", and "Happily Ever After" is only five scenes, so I was going to write a companion piece from Elena's POV. Never happened though, because I didn't know how to tackle it!

Okay, another piano porn fact for you: I actually got some of my ideas from reading a wikipedia entry on jazz music. Because I don't know shit about music, but I had this vague recollection that piano is an important jazz instrument, so I thought: jazz, it suits Damon, let's look it up. The entry said all the things about improvisation in jazz, and that's how the narrative clicked for me!

Oh man, that narrative structure worked so ridiculously well, I was pretty convinced you knew exactly what you were talking about and I'm still pretty convinced. Still though, that was definitely a bold writing choice and that's one of the things I LOVE about fanfic, it gives you so many opportunities to explore so many styles without any publishing pressure or anything!
