I like the inference that maybe Damon was once like that himself. That lends to what we've seen on screen quite nicely.

The rest of it is just...GUH. You have a way of writing even non-angsty sex with this level of importance that makes it so much more than sex. And I just love it. This may be one of my favorites of yours because I love Damon so much, and I love being in his head and seeing just how well he understands Elena. Because Damon is Elena. Of course.

I thought about it when I rewatched 3x16. In first flashback scenes, Damon was just so quiet, sad, resigned... Very much like Elena when she's broken.
