I think she does know, after all the many verbal and non-verbal professions of devotion--"I will always choose you," "I will never leave you again," etc.--that Damon would have her no matter what and that he'll take whatever she dishes out.Hmm, I think it's something she takes for granted when she's well, but not necessarily something she can't talk herself out of in a dark moment? In Elena's mindset, everyone leaves her, everyone dies around her, she's not worthy of anyone staying with her. So she knows Damon loves her unconditionally, but she has moments she doesn't believe anyone could ever love her unconditionally, and that's when other factors (i.e. her identity not being contingent on Damon's

And I so agree, so much is about Elena not having to care about what Damon thinks, and just doing it, and Damon accepting who she is. And THEY ALWAYS HAVE THE SAME MO.

IKR? It's funny for me how all of a sudden fandom is all over the "you're like me" issue, and, apparently, arguing about it, when it was here all the fucking time! The "Elena is like Damon" thing didn't appear in 4x03, it appeared in 1x14 and consequently kept reappearing up until today :D.

People are arguing? How? I suppose people will always argue. I thought Damon and Elena were the same long before I liked Damon/Elena as a pairing. I remember thinking it for a while and then there were the scenes about John returning to Mystic Falls, and I was all, yeah, this is definitely being done on purpose :).

This is the hot topic of the month in D/E vs S/E shipwar ;). I try not to get into it, but I can't help seeing some strange comments here and there. I try very much not to read them, because I'm making a conscious effort not to participate in this shipwar ;).
