Jill | Ballroom | Open zerosuitjill November 6 2011, 00:39:57 UTC
Either Hecate had been telling the truth and the population could use this night to relax, or she was wrong -- or lying -- and something would try to blindside them all in one place. Either way was reason enough for Jill to attend.

It was true that Jill Valentine never did anything only halfway, so she'd rolled right along with the theme of the thing and dressed accordingly -- and wasn't complaining. Practical or not, oftentimes serious or not, she wasn't above the simple pleasure of putting real effort into looking nicer than usual and feeling good doing it, something she'd already proven once since arriving. The simple mask over her eyes that she'd found to match was more for the sake of conceding to formality, but it worked. As usual, the Underworld had provided where needed when in its own best interest ( ... )

Thomas, clad in a suit and mask combination that bordered on ridiculous, approached Jill as he saw her enter the ballroom. It'd been a while since he'd last seen her, and they'd been under attack by zombies at the time. It was nice to see her.

He smiled as he approached. "Well, don't you look ravishing this evening?"

Jill was smiling at the voice before she'd even fully turned, and she tilted her head slightly in both acknowledgement and consideration as her eyes found him. Bordering ridiculous or not, the man made the outfit work.

"Thanks," she replied easily. "I wasn't sure if overkill was even possible in a place like this, so I tried keeping it simple. More or less."

He allowed a broader smile to touch his lips as she turned. "In true Venetian style, there is no expense to be spared." He laughed. "I know it may sound masochistic of me, but sometimes I don't mind Hecate so much."

Jill shook her head, waving dismissively. "Hardly. Anything half-decent we've had, we can really thank her for as far as I know."

This was normally where she'd cast an indicative glance around the room, but her eyes seemed perfectly content to remain on Thomas as she spoke. "They definitely didn't spare any expense on their part, at least -- but the Greek gods were supposed to really know how to party, right? I guess it's fitting -- and humbling."

Thomas was, of course, very aware of Jill's eyes on him, but there was hardly anything he could do about it, and he was used to it. He raised an eyebrow at her comment, though. "Humbling? You considering yourself an unrivaled hostess or something?"

She laughed and shook her head again. "No, definitely not. Just the atmosphere in general, I guess. You think you haven't seen anything new and then this kind of thing takes your breath away."

She shrugged a shoulder absently. "Then again, that could be said for most of the things that go on here."

"It's the way of the Greeks, Jill," he said, laughing. "They always upstage each other."

"So they were early politicians is what you're saying," she deduced with a quirky half-grin. "Although... I guess that'd be more along the lines of always undercutting each other, not necessarily doing better."

"Well, yeah. Where do you think democracy came from?" He nods with a laugh. "Exactly. They make each other look bad while upstaging."

"At least it's a good thing for us," Jill pointed out. "...Unless they start competing to see who can make us more miserable."

She dismissed the thought and shifted the subject. "So are you here with anyone?"

He nodded. "Yeah. Have I never introduced you to Justine?"

Jill considered, and then shook her head. "I don't think I know the name, either."

Well, this was more awkward than he'd anticipated. "Ah, she's..." How could he even explain what Justine was to him? "My girlfriend." Somehow that didn't seem to fulfill the description, but it would have to do.

Jill was quick to grin at that. Whatever her own attraction to him -- and just that, attraction, however strong -- it was a good and admittedly cute thing to hear.

"I didn't know you had one," she replied with that same grin. "Is she from back home, or did you meet her here?"

He chuckled and looked down, momentarily bashful. "Yeah, I guess I could have mentioned her, huh? She's from home."
