With a EE degree you could presumably train to be a EE tech in not much time. I wonder if working as a tech would be fun but boring at the same time?

I think you'd be good and enjoy being an EE tech, as it would both use your skills and offer variety from day to day and week to week. You'd also be helping people. (-:
