It's occurred to me that, in the midst of this sudden medical [emergency] situation, I'm not exactly scared ( Read more... )

Money isn't a silly thing to worry about at all, esp. in the context of medical issues. It's one of the major reasons people don't go to the doctor when they should, and a major source of stress when you can't put it off any longer. It's also one of the reasons our medical system is so broken; in theory, when you're at the hospital you need to focus on getting better, but it's hard to do that when you're wondering how you're going to pay for it.

That said, I'm glad you're able to face this with some equanimity. Been sending good thoughts your way. And if you want to have a cheap vacation, you're welcome to come stay with us for a few days - it's a bit of a drive, but I'll be happy to show you around our lovely town. And we could make art together!

Well, the words "remaining amount of deductible" were used, which gives me some hope.

As soon as I have some more answers, or at least some solid information (as opposed to the airy sort that doesn't help anyone at all) I'll be plotting out more actual vacations. It would be nice to explore more of the state, especially with friends :)

Excellent. Hope your job gives you paid vacation - they'd better, with the hours they have you working. Even if they don't, you could probably get unpaid under FMLA regulations, since you've been working there a couple years.

Wow, you've really had some terrible medical "professionals" to deal with in the pas, haven't you...

Yup. Folks around here are appalled at how lazy, incompetent, and outright stupid the docs in Juneau were about the first clot. One has even gone so far as to point out that I could have filed for malpractice; they should have held me overnight instead of sending me home.

And now I'm in an area where they're so thorough it makes my head spin.

You're totally right; Oncology and Haematology frequently go hand in hand, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Hope it all gets sorted soon! ♥
