Jenny sighed, folding her arms around her midsection. "Buffy, what do you want to do?"

Rupert was, again, very quick to jump in with his rationale. "What we should do, is--"

Politely but firmly, she cut her husband off with a simple, "I wasn't asking you." Then, she looked once more to the Slayer. "Buffy?"

Buffy took a breath, sighed it out through her nose slowly, then looked up. "What I want... is to punch something," she told them. "Really hard."

Predictably, Xander turned over his shoulder, raising his brows. "Spike?"

"Stuff it, Scarecrow. Dorothy's not about to sock me."

"Because you're the Cowardly Lion in this scenario?"

Spike sneered. "No, I'm--"

Giles made his way into the training room, watching as Buffy pummeled the punching bag, her hands wrapped as she alternated between right and left, giving the bag of leather a run for its money. "You sure you're not going to tire yourself out?" he asked, breaking the silence ( ... )

Jenny took the hint but, instead of sitting beside him, she stepped onto the cushion and then perched herself on the back of the couch directly beside him, her leg resting against his arm. Leaning forward, she pressed her forearms into her thighs, clasping her hands in the space between her knees as she tilted her head to look down at him. "So Buffy's given up, huh?"

"Basically, yes. I've never seen her so... resigned, Jenny." She watched as he stared straight ahead, shaking his head. "She's so jaded. And she's all but convinced herself that a Slayer is merely a killer, and nothing more."

At that, she raised her eyebrows. "That's what she got from her outing in the desert ( ... )
