Shun scowled down at his watch for what felt like the millionth time that day. It was a relatively short work day, only 7 or 8 hours of interviews and appearances, and he knew it was almost over.
But it felt like forever.
He smiled to himself, remembering the sweet French toast kisses that morning, waking up with Sho in his arms again. He could very quickly get used to having Sho around all the time. Everything was so new and exciting - it was like the whole world was painted in shades of grey before Sho came along. Now? Now it was like shocking neon brightness. Who would have thought one person could make that big a difference?
"You're smiling a lot these days," Hiro said, grinning at his friend. Shun's head snapped up, smile fading a bit.
"Yeah," he said, a bit self-consciously. "I'm happy the show's coming up. It's nice being busy again."
Hiro raised an eyebrow at him. "That's not the smile of a hard worker." He clapped Shun on the shoulder as the AD announced the end of the day's work. "That's the smile of someone in love. See you tomorrow."
Shun's eyebrows shot up in surprise. 'Love?' He thought. 'I don't know about all that...' Shaking his head, he walked back to his car.
"Crap!" he said, glancing back at his watch. "I'm late!"
Shun shot through the traffic of Tokyo, driving perhaps a bit more wildly than he should have. Didn't these people understand? He had somewhere to BE. Someone to be with. Cursing at the little old woman with questionable driving skills in front of him, Shun at long last pulled smoothly into the parking garage. He checked his watch as he took the stairs two at a time - 7:10 p.m. "Dammit." He whipped out his cell phone to text Sho he was going to be late; his breath caught in his throat at Sho's emoticon-laden reply.
"Relax," he chided himself. This constant worrying and stomach turning was getting a bit annoying. His hand shook a bit as he tried to open the door to his apartment. "What the hell!" This should not be that difficult. Why was he so worked up tonight? He saw Sho less than 12 hours ago. It wasn't like they'd gone days or anything. Somehow, though, he knew it was different. Something changed last night.
----
Sitting in his apartment with Brutus the Magnificent ginger kitten on his lap, Shun's brain wouldn't shut up. The glass of wine he'd had certainly hadn't helped. He always knew better than to drink wine, but he was lonely. And trying really really hard not to be needy or clingy. The last thing he wanted was to force Sho away with his clingy tendencies. And they'd already spent so much time together, he didn't want to seem overly obsessive.
Still, even after a week of near-constant making out and cuddling and talking and seeing each other almost every day, he didn't know for sure where Sho stood. Shun didn't want to get hurt again. Not because he was 100% into a relationship and the other person just...wasn't there. He'd tried to pull back a bit. Didn't invite Sho over that night on purpose, even though they both had the time. He was trying (and failing) to restrain himself.
Two glasses of wine later, he was fully and completely melancholy. Did Sho even really like him? Or was he just trying to get in his pants? Was Sho that kind of guy? He didn't think so, but they didn't really know each other THAT well. Sho had been the one who kind of attacked him at the Pickle Party (not that Shun was one to complain about that at ALL). Who else had Sho slept with? Had Sho slept with guys? How many guys? OH MY GOD, HAS HE SLEPT WITH EVERYONE IN ARASHI?? Shun's head spun with questions, stupid questions. They hadn't even gotten past the making out stage yet. And that was just all kissing! Shun hung his head in shame. "What the hell is wrong with me?"
His phone beeped, alerting him to a new Twitter response. "Eh?"
"Need some company?" Shun's heart swelled at the username. Sho.
"If you don't mind," he responded, trying to be nonchalant, but wanting nothing more than to scream, "YES PLEASE RIGHT NOW WHY AREN'T YOU HERE YET."
It took less than ten minutes for Sho to be sitting on the incredibly comfy couch, Shun's head in his lap, running his fingers through his hair. Shun closed his eyes and concentrated on the sensation, his scalp tingling with every touch.
"Are you gonna tell me what's wrong?" Sho asked, eyebrows drawn together in concern. Shun scrunched his eyes even tighter.
"I don't know," he lied. "Just...suddenly got hit with this overwhelming sadness. The wine probably wasn't a good idea." He opened his eyes and looked up at Sho, still not believing that this beautiful man could ever really be his.
Sho smiled and leaned down to lightly touch his lips to Shun's. "It'll be okay," he whispered, centimeters from Shun's mouth. "I'm here now."
Shun lifted a hand and pulled Sho just a touch closer. He needed more than pecks right now. A few breathless minutes later, Sho leaned back and grinned.
"Feeling better?" he asked mischievously.
"Much," Shun replied, a small smile finally beginning to form on his lips. "I'm trying really hard not to be needy. Thank you for coming over."
"Everyone deserves to be needy now and then." Sho said, shrugging slightly, still running his fingers through Shun's hair. "I'm sure you would do the same for me."
Shun's face broke into a real grin. "Of course I would! In a heartbeat," he said seriously.
"I knew there was a reason why I keep you around," Sho said, a somewhat devious little smile painting his face.
Shun sat up, smiling fully. "I knew it wasn't just the couch!"
"Ah," Sho exclaimed in mock-scandalization. "My cover has been blown. Whatever am I going to do now?" He raised an eyebrow in Shun's direction, not expecting to be knocked over ten seconds later and snuggled rather forcefully.
"Now you must CUDDLE WITH ME MORE." Shun wrapped his arms tightly around Sho's thin waist, drawing him close to kiss both his cheeks with vigor.
Two hours later they laid in Shun's big bed, his head on Sho's chest, listening to his heartbeat. Somehow, even in this short time they'd been kind-of-dating-but-really-just-making-out-a-lot, Sho'd become one of the only people who could cheer him up (next to Toma, his mom, and Sakura, his dad's dog). For this moment, his doubts left him. He looked up at Sho's face, smiling at the peaceful visage before him. Shun snuggled closer to his chest and closed his eyes. Waking up to Sho had yet to get old and Shun hoped it never did.
----
Shun showered quickly after feeding Brutus later that night, his thoughts on Sho. Always on Sho. Sho's smile and his laugh and the way his brows furrowed when he was thinking. His stomach did little flips at the memory of the sweet, sticky kisses they'd shared that morning. French toast kisses were messy, but completely worth it. Every time.
He dressed carefully, wearing the red shirt he knew Sho liked on him (Jun let it slip sometime last week), black leather jacket and his nicest jeans. He smiled at his reflection. It was their first real date. They'd been "dating" for over a week, but this was the first time they'd gone on a proper, grown up date. Not ramen from a stand or watching movies on the couch - this was real and adult and just a little intimidating. He tried not to drive at breakneck speeds to Sho's apartment. He was kind of glad the whole family was gone. Shun wasn't sure he was ready to do the whole "meeting the parents" thing.
Shun's arm barely pulled back from the first knock when he was practically assaulted by a flying Sho.
"Ah, you're here!" Sho exclaimed, throwing his arms around Shun's neck and kissing him quickly. "I haven't seen you in forever! Let's go!" He pulled a stunned Shun down the hallway. "I like that shirt on you, by the way," he said with a smile. Shun grinned goofily and held his hand tighter. He wasn't sure who this version of Sho was - he was acting kind of like Aiba - but Shun was pretty sure he liked it. He hadn't seen Sho this energetic and happy in....well, ever, and he liked to think he played a pretty decent sized role in that.
"Did you miss me or something?" Shun joked, chasing his captured hand down the hall.
They held hands in the car. It was such a simple, normal thing to do, but it felt so much more than that. Sho chided him for Twittering his glee at a stop light and Shun couldn't help but laugh. That was more like it - there was the worrier Sho, the reason they called him Mamacita.
"Seriously," Sho said, frowning a bit. "Do you know how many people die while texting and driving every year? Don't make me take my hand back."
Shun immediately put his phone back down and gripped Sho's hand tighter. "Fine, fine. But you're crazy if you think I'm letting go." He smiled widely at his passenger, who was still frowning at the phone. "I promise, no more texting and driving."
Dinner was at a quaint and cozy little place Horikitty had mentioned to Shun years ago. It was just far enough off the beaten track that the two stars could sit close and not be bothered. Shun desperately wanted to hold Sho's hand, but even being off the beaten path didn't make them not famous. And technically, Sho wasn't supposed to be in any kind of relationship, let alone one with another guy. Shun's eyebrow shot up when he felt Sho's foot graze his...and then again. Sho smiled mischievously around the rim of his wine glass, completely failing at looking innocent. Shun responded in kind, touching the toe of Sho's shoe with his own as he took a drink.
They continued their game of back and forth until their food arrived and they both dug in voraciously. Shun eyed Sho's lasagna lustfully between bites of his own chicken parmigiana. He'd always had a weakness for excellent Italian food and this was certainly no exception. Sho looked up, catching Shun's eye.
"Want a bite?" He asked, tilting his plate in Shun's direction. Five minutes later Sho's plate was empty and his stomach was still growling. "Er...Shun?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. It only took two seconds of pouting to swap plates for Shun's nearly full one.
They both leaned back, appetites sated for the moment, and sighed with contentment. Their eyes met for the hundredth time that night and they both smiled widely.
"This was a good idea," Sho said, leaning forward to put his chin on his hand.
"Yeah, it was," Shun replied, eyes glittering. "Wanna go for a walk around the park? I saw one across the street as we drove up."
"Sounds perfect!" Sho said excitedly.
Shun paid their tab and soon they were wandering along the pathway through the park. The moon shone brightly overhead, casting everything in a heavenly glow, just bright enough to see the way. They walked side by side for a few minutes, not touching or talking, simply enjoying each other's company. Shun couldn't remember the last time it was this easy to be with someone. Just being with them, in the same area, without the pressure to do anything. Sho wasn't just someone he was dating, he was a friend. And Shun was infinitely grateful for that. He sighed happily.
"It's a perfect night, eh?" Sho asked, slipping his arm through Shun's before sliding his hand down to lock fingers.
"Absolutely perfect," Shun replied, smiling contentedly. "Except I ate all your lasagna."
Sho laughed, that small, intimate laugh that Shun hoped was saved only for him. "It's okay," he said, squeezing Shun's hand. "I like you anyway."
"I like you, too," Shun said quietly.
They walked hand in hand for a few moments, enjoying the chilly fall night and all its sounds. Without warning, Sho stopped dead, pulling Shun back to him slowly.
"Kiss me," he whispered, suddenly serious, his hands at Shun's waist. "Kiss me here, outside. Under the stars and the moon and everything."
Shun looked deep in Sho's warm brown eyes, seeing an insecurity there he didn't know Sho had. Or maybe he knew about it, he was just so lost in his own insecurities and neuroses he forgot Sho had them, too. Cupping both of Sho's cheeks with his hands, Shun leaned down slowly and touched their lips softly. Sho's arms wrapped around his waist, pulling them tighter together. Shun tentatively ran his tongue along Sho's bottom lip, savoring Sho's sharp intake of breath as he deepened the kiss. Their mouths moved softly together, tasting and feeling and pleasuring. This was different from before - the hasty, heated, needy kisses on the couch. Shun's brain stopped working the moment their tongues touched. He could practically taste the electricity between them. Tongues swirled, Sho sighed, and Shun nearly lost his mind.
Shun leaned back, breaking the kiss and running his thumbs across Sho's high cheekbones. He always thought Sho was one of the most beautiful people he'd ever seen, but like this, with his lips swollen, eyes glistening, cheeks flushed, he was practically angelic. Sho stared back and bit his lower lip. He was having a hard time remembering they were technically in public.
"Come on," Shun said, grabbing Sho's hand again. "Let's go home and cuddle."
Sho smiled and threaded their fingers. "Sounds perfect. I am getting a little chilly." He shivered and drew Shun closer.
Shun grinned. If only every day could be like this, life would be perfect. He had a beautiful person, inside and out, who wanted to be with him. He had a great apartment and a comfy couch and the most precious, manly cat ever. A job he loved, fans that made it all worthwhile, and a family that he knew would accept him, no matter what.
He threw an arm around Sho's shoulders and headed back to the car. "Life is good," he murmured, beaming like an idiot.
