Day 40.

Oct 19, 2010 03:05

At midnight, all of the bells in the house and all over town start chiming. The notes are loud and they hang heavily in the cool, still air. Suddenly, every room that has someone in it in Peaksville has a television that turns on. (Even the movie theater screen turns into a giant television.) And there appears on it a man whom every single ( Read more... )

"Dammit, West, come face me like a man. Where's Deb?"

But Jim was too late--the television had snapped off, and belatedly remembered that they weren't two-way communication devices. Then again, they were West's toys, and he could apparently tape anything that happened. Jim was on his feet again, irritation surging through him.

And suddenly, on the television in front of him, there appears a rather attractive woman, watching him eerily through the screen.

Nice trick, Jim thought. But he hadn't seen her before, so that was worth investigating.

"Just here to watch?" he snapped. "Or did you have something to share?"

"Admiring the view." The woman's voice was soft, and she smiled from where she was perched on the edge of a rather classy looking business desk.

"What would you give to know where the foul-mouthed Detective Morgan is?"

Erik had rolled over on the couch he'd been dozing on, staring the television. For some minutes, he was simply fascinated by the fact of the wonders of film being piped into a personal residence. Hermitage had, he perceived, gotten a lot better with time.

But West's threats had no effect on him; he turned over again, resolving to take the television apart once he'd had some sleep and something to eat.

Erik stared back, nonplussed. And then turned over again, ignoring her. It was just an image.

"I am surprised to find you here, Erik." The woman looked at him through the television. "I thought you would stay in the theatre."

At long last, the electronic interference came to an end, heralded by reception of a transmission from an unknown origin. The message recognised and logged for future analysis.

Flying primates? A deal?

But most importantly, the most immediate problem had now been fixed.

And a more mechanised variety of killer was now free in the house...

Watching the woman watch the man had only limited intelligence value. The T-X continued witnessing for a few moments more, but it was swiftly becoming a security risk. Something had been able to access channels and transmit data.

Which made it a potential threat.

Head tilted to one side as a message flashed in text across its internal display:

"But I don't want or need to give you my identity." The woman's voice was soft and amused.

Wilson stared at the television blankly. His only outward response was the shiver that ran up his spine and seemed to shake his whole body and the blush that tinged his cheeks at seeing himself vomit on a little girl. It was a relief to see some sort of proof that House was alive and hadn't been dragged off by some vile flying monkey's, but somehow Wilson didn't feel any better about anything.

Wilson was startled when the t.v. flashed back on. He blinked, trying to clear the image of the girl from either its screen or his sight, he wasn't sure which. It wasn't that she was hard to look at, just that he'd had enough creepy shit happen to him in the last 48 hours or so to last him a lifetime.

The creep factor only increased as it appeared as though the woman was watching him. Against his better judgement, he tried something. "Um, hello?" he said, wondering if she could hear him. He certainly wouldn't put it past this place.

"How are you feeling, Doctor Wilson?" The woman's voice was cheerful and exceedingly pleasant.
