I love the contrast of the tension between B&G, along with the obvious unshakable foundation of affection. As littleotter said, the voices are perfect. I completely love how you have Buffy recognize Giles' eloquent confession of friendship and loyalty to her as genuine and from his heart, not practiced speech.

Can't wait for "moor"!! :-)

This opening scene was fun to write - all the hints at the horrors of the barrow wight's lair, finding themselves in a strange land ... and them finally having the conversation that I suspect they'd been trying to have for a while ...

Well, hopefully it will still be a fun story without much familiarity with the books - and not knowing the background simply means you'll get the introduction to Middle Earth exactly the way Buffy and Giles do. :-)

Okay. OKAY. I'm here. Long-time LOTR reader here I have a really cute photo of myself at age 8 or so reading The Hobbit so I am HERE with the barrow wights. YES.

I missed the barrow wights in the movie. That sequence established all sorts of things, including why Merry's dagger had the power to hurt the Witch King. And that whole concept - dead things, hoarding the things of the dead and preying on the living. *shudder*

Very much Buffy's thing, I thought. And a great way to get her and her Watcher into Middle Earth *without* rewriting the core plot of the books ...
