Show discussion [SPOILERS!]

Since Shattered's final episode has been aired (and there probably won't be another season), I was wondering what you guys thought of the show. What did you like? What didn't work for you? What would you've loved to see being handled differently, and how? And if you've watched the first version of the pilot: which show concept worked better for you?

Me, overall I really loved the show. The acting was fantastic (especially by Callum and Camille), and I loved the dark, high quality look of the show. Also, the subtle way clues were given about Ben's childhood, and the way his story unfolded was exceptionally well done imo. Watching the first version of the pilot I realized though what the reason might have been that the show failed.

While the depiction of Dissociate Identity Disorder obviously was entirely realistic in the final version of the show (there are positive reviews by people who suffer from DID) and we learned a lot about Ben's alters and the cause for his disease, I never felt we really got to know Ben himself, we never got a real glimpse inside his head. The reason for this was probably the lack of genuine interaction with others (his wife, Amy etc.) since he mostly seemed busy keeping everything about him under wraps. This made it mostly pretty hard for me to relate to him, though I did of course feel for the boy he was. In short, I would have loved to see more of the real Ben, learn about his thoughts, his likes and dislikes, and make him generally more accessible (maybe a voice-over of his thoughts, Dexter-style, would have been it? Of course Callum is an excellent actor, but there's only so much you can get across via acting.). Though I think the original pilot is in almost every aspect inferior to the final version, this was the first time we actually got to witness Ben's internal struggle, and it's just sad we didn't get more of that.
