(omg, double digits already??)
Again, I made a copy of the blade section of the blue print. Trace the outline of the blade and the curve. Cut it out.
Trace it. At about 1/2 way down, gradually widen the blade until it's about 1/2cm wider at the base. Cut it out. This is your actual pattern.
ne?
cut out two copies of your new pattern out of 3mm craft foam.
Lay down in this order: blue print, one copy of foam, sword. Line everything up.
For an immediate bond, put down some super glue and attach dowel to foam.
Line up other copy of foam and repeat. Now you have the beginnings of a blade foam sammich!
Using hot glue, glue the seam together, smoothing any excess. work slowly. you don't want any lumps!
Okay, looks great so far, but the base of the blade has no stability. So we're going to make a base - why do I suddenly sound like Martha? YIKES! Add some layers of 3mm foam, using some of the scraps from cutting out the blade pieces. Work around the dowel and be creative. Repeat on the other side. (Use super glue for this, it'll go faster with less mess) At this point, though, I haven't glued the blade base to the platform. I'm not sure I want to do that yet. ^^; I'll let you know, should I change my mind on that.
And here's how it looks now with the gimpy boo-boo thingers hacked off. :/
/status report. off to bed!
