growing up we didn't have avocados available - I think I was into my teens before 'alligator pears' first appeared in the market, and they weren't added to mom's cooking. but once I moved out I tried them a few times and fell in love. That sounds so delicious, I want to try and make that.

Living in Texas, I am spoiled by the incredible amount of food from here and Mexico. So much good produce.

They are yummy. My favourite coffee shop uses them in two brunches/lunches I love: savoury French toast topped with bacon, avocado and roasted tomato; and smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and avocado on sourdough toast.

Oh yes, avocado at breakfast! I'm a big fan of the fried egg sandwich with tomato, bacon, avocado, and lettuce!

There is no wrong time or place for avocado. And yeah, any time I travel out of this area, I realize how fortunate we are to be so close to such an abundance of produce. Summer travels up in the Midwest a couple of years ago really drove that point home. In Michigan and Wisconsin, it was not uncommon to see 'cados in the $3-$4 range -- EACH!
