Title: Remember When...
Characters: Ban Midou, Kyo Kusanagi, Yukie
Summary: Visiting a friend for the holidays.
Rating: G
Notes: Had the idea kicking around in my head for awhile, finally got time to write it down. I know Kyo's not here anymore, but I have a feeling Lii will get a kick out of this anyway. 8D Also, I apologize if I misspelled Yukie's name. D:
“Midou!”
“Kusanagi!” Stepping into the apartment, Ban threw an arm around Kyo's shoulders, giving the other man a hug. “It's been a long time - what the hell have you been up to?” he asked, closing the door behind him. Kyo gave a sheepish shrug, chuckling.
“Managed to get some time off, so now Yukie and I are getting ready for the holidays,” he replied, rolling his eyes when Ban raised an eyebrow. “Look. Shinra gave me the job. It helps - and it's better than hawking fliers every day.”
“Hey.” Glaring, Ban held up a hand. “I would rather 'hawk fliers' than suit up and have to answer to Ruffles.”
“Ruffles?” Yukie called, peeking out of the kitchen. “Is that what you call him?” she asked, though not without a small giggle. Ban grinned.
“Name fits, doesn't it?” he replied, ignoring Kyo's audible facepalm; stepping further into the apartment, Ban handed Yukie a small, wrapped bento box. “By the way, this is for you and Kyo - made especially for you two.”
“Since when do you bake, Midou?” Kyo said, elbowing the younger man. Ban returned the gesture, a smirk crossing his lips.
“Since I found this and thought Rider and I should give it a shot. Consider it a Christmas gift from the both of us.” Blinking, Kyo shook his head, silently wondering what could be in the second box Ban was carrying, and led him into the living room. Once the two were seated - Ban on the couch, Kyo in a recliner - the conversation continued.
“How is Rider doing, anyway?”
Rather than answer immediately, Ban smiled lightly, raking a hand through his hair. “She's doing all right - still working at the bookstore, even though she looks ready to deliver at any second.”
It was then that Yukie walked out to join the conversation, licking her fingers. “She's still working?”
“Oh yeah.” Ban nodded. “She says she'll work as long as possible.”
“You're making sure she's taking it easy when she gets home, right?” she asked, narrowing her eyes when Kyo laughed under his breath. “You know what I meant.”
“I promise. Rider is doing absolutely fine, and soon enough we'll all come visit you two,” Ban replied. “Speaking of that though - I can't be gone too long. Got a possible client meeting tonight, so here...” he leaned forward, pushing the gift box toward Kyo. “Merry Christmas.”
Blinking in surprise, Kyo laughed. “You really didn't have to, Midou. You've got more important things to keep your money for.”
Ban chuckled, sitting back on the couch, arms stretched out across the back. “Trust me. I saw this and just had to pick it up for you. I think even Yukie will get a kick out of it,” he added, giving his friend's wife a friendly smile. Nodding excitedly, Yukie patted Kyo's shoulder.
“Go on, open it! I want to see what Ban got for you!”
Kyo laughed, already tearing into the paper. “Knowing him, it's gotta be something good.” Paper was crumpled and tossed aside, the box easily opened; it only took a millisecond for Kyo's expression to go from excited to unamused, and he glared up at Ban. “Midou...”
“Hold it up,” he teased, swallowing his laughter. Best to wait until after the reveal.
Gritting his teeth, Kyo held up the plushes in turn; first was a small red and yellow monkey with a fiery tail. The second was a slightly larger monkey, nearly resembling a baboon, with flaming hair and golden fists. Behind him, Yukie was already squealing.
“Kyo, they're adorable! I didn't know you collected Pokémon plushes!” she exclaimed, taking the Chimchar in her hands while Kyo still held the Infernape. “This one's so cute, and the bigger one suits you so well!”
That did it; Ban doubled over with laughter, his violet glasses barely remaining on his face, while Kyo simply glared at him. When Ban was able to catch his breath, he shook his head at his friend's scowling face. “Aw, c'mon. Those were the days, you adorable flaming monkey.”
“Goddamnit Midou...”
