Summary: Akane gets a very interesting surprise.

“Masa-kun?” Fujimori Akane called as she walked through the large gardens surrounding the massive Castle Doran, taking care to lift up the skirt of her violet ball gown as she walked. She hadn’t seen her boyfriend, Kurenai Masao, in a couple of days and had begun to get a little worried. Then, earlier in the day, she’d found the dress and a pair of crystal slippers and a note to come to Castle Doran. Wondering what her beloved boyfriend was up to, she’d come. “Are you here?”

Silence followed. There was just the quiet chirping of crickets. Akane let out a sigh and continued her walk through the garden. She had been aimlessly wandering around for a while, when she stumbled across a path lit with paper lanterns and rose petals strewn about. Now her interest was piqued and if she inhaled enough of the warm air, she caught the scent of jasmine. Curious, she began to walk her way down the path, following the lights.

The path seemed to widen as she reached the end of it and suddenly, Akane came face to face with… herself. Or, at least, a giant painting of herself. It was a depiction of Akane that seemed to be based off the Vermeer painting “Girl with a Pearl Earring”, only it showed Akane wearing nothing but the golden violin necklace Masao had once given her as a gift. It was tastefully done, for Akane was pleased to see she was covered up. It was incredibly striking and beautiful and Akane could almost see and feel the tender love and care Masao had put into creating it. It took her breath away. As she scanned over the canvas, she noticed a small golden envelope sitting next to a blue and gold Harry Winston box. Curious, she moved along the path and knelt before the canvas to pick up the envelope, which had “Akane-hime” scrawled on it in black.

“What are you up to, Kurenai Masao?” She murmured to herself as she opened up the envelope with a little sigh. All that was in the envelope was a black card with gold lettering on it and on that envelope, in Masao’s best calligraphy, was one simple phrase:

Will you marry me?

Akane’s eyes widened and she nearly screamed.

“You know, your father wasn’t too pleased when I went to him the other night and asked him for permission to marry you.” Masao’s voice suddenly came from behind the canvas and Akane was surprised she hadn’t picked up his scent. “Well, I had to talk him into it and then swear that I would never hurt you or treat you badly… that I would always love you. We’re going to live forever… why would I stop loving you? I could never want another woman the way I want you or love another the way I love you.” A pause. “I’ve been in love with you since I was five. How could I love another after so long?”

All Akane could do was stare as Masao emerged from behind the canvas, placing a red rose in her hair and kissing her cheek before picking up the Harry Winston box. He was wearing a violet suit to perfectly match her dress. He smiled at her and she could have sworn her heart stopped beating.

Slowly, Masao got down on one knee and presented her with the box. “Fujimori Akane…I have loved you since childhood. You are my muse, my goddess, my princess, my lover, my confidant, my soul mate and my best friend. You mean the world to me and I am at the point where life without you is not an option.”

Akane’s eyes shimmered golden as she began to cry.

“I love you, Kane-hime.” He continued, slowly opening up the box. “And since I know you and I are fated, well, there’s just one thing left to do.”

“Oh my God.” Akane gasped, trying not to hyperventilate and cry all at once.

“Akane-hime…” Masao opened the box to present her with the ring. “Will you marry me?”

Akane made some sort of happy gasping noise, slowly extending her left hand out for Masao to present her with the ring. It was utterly gorgeous: a platinum band, with a heart shaped blue diamond offset by two smaller white diamonds. On the inside of the band, she could just make out an inscriptions: “To my Akane-hime. Eternally your Prince, Masao.”

“Akane…” Masao was surprised by her silence. “…you’re going to have to say something.”

What on earth could she possibly say?

“Hime?”

And just like that… out it came.

“YES!”
