I always wanted to see the first movie, because I really like the idea and what a good director could get out of it. As to the Americans: directors have portrayed them as the saviours of the world for uncountable times. I am really curious to see another approach.

Oh, go ahead and watch those movies - the idea certainly is interesting and more than a bit frightening.
Americans certainly aren't the saviours of the world in these stories, they are too busy going crazy and staying alive.
