I haven't seen this one yet but want to (I was impressed and surprised when they turned Hiccup into an amputee). From what I've been told they bear little resemblance to the books but I've not read them either

Have you watched it by now?
And yes, I was quite shocked when they maimed him like that. Not only is that a children's movie, the character also was still half a child then. But well, real life isn't always nice and fair to children, too - and Hiccup ended up with the cutest dragon that ever existed.

Usually I'm quite interested in reading the original books after I more or less liked the film adaptation, but I'm not so sure this time. Firstly, I'm not so very much into children's books (not even was as a child) and secondly, I like my Toothless exactly the way he is in the films ...

I won't see it until it's on dvd. My area is very rural. we only gt things for about 2 weeks and I missed it

Very good point. I was very surprised by the amputation.

I'm reading it now for a bingo spot (read a book made into a movie). I do read some kids books but this one isn't the 13-15 age group like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson. This is very much grade school and it is NOTHING like the movie. I mean it's cute but other than title and names it bears no resemblance to the movie which for my money is the richer, better story
