Anyone been to Portland?

The Captain and I should win some kind of award for laziest vacation planning. We burned about 15 calories a few months ago deciding that I should keep the BC Day long weekend as a holiday by not accepting any gigs. "We'll go somewhere," we thought ( Read more... )

Do you actually call him the Captain? *chuckle* lazarus7 July 25 2008, 19:51:20 UTC
I have been to Portland a few times but can't recall much of anything that stood out.

There was this nice section of downtown that was easy to walk around and filled with delicious treats and fun things to see ...

Is that a 6 hour trip on the two wheeled Vanessa carrier or the 4 wheeled one?

Filled with delicious treats sounds pretty good to me. I hear there are plenty of brewpubs, which I think should take care of dinners.

We are thinking of the four-wheeled Vanessa carrier. The two-wheeled one would be fun and all, but a six-hour ride is probably a bit much for my novice motorcycling ass. Also in the four-wheeled carrier, we could bring the pedal-driven two-wheeled carriers and then bicycle around the place once we arrive!

...and NO I don't call him the Captain =) I just think that he deserves his own larger-than-life persona in my blog. I also aim to thwart Google, just a little bit. For instance, Irish Band is never referred to by name here.

If you do lots of things to make me blog about you, maybe you will get your own blog persona name too. Now that you have published the results to your obscure personal trivia quiz, I already have a nice list of high school nicknames to choose from. =P

You can do better than those ...

(I am going to start signing my emails to your Captain with 'Aye aye, and goodbye')

I have been to Portland but I didn't see any attractions and I stayed at the Hilton. This disqualifies me as a tourguide. I hear the agriculture around there is mindblowing so checking out some sort of farmers market might be in order.

D'oh. The Portland farmers markets are on Saturday morning, while we would still be driving there. =(

If we go, I will try to do the next best thing by eating a bunch of food from local restaurants. =)

I am told that Powell's is a must-see. If you like books, bring an extra empty suitcase.

I do like books, but I mostly enjoy borrowing them from the library and not having to find somewhere to put them afterwards. However you are the second person to tell me that bookstore is worth a visit, so I think we will drop by! Thanks for the recommendataion.
