In the quiet places, I call your name

Waterbending by herself. Fighting several people while being overlooked by Kang and Ronan. Bene Gesserit training in the morning. Worrying about the Outsiders. Fussing over Zuko and Sokka. Visiting Haku. Joking around with Jamie. Learning new dishes. Listening to music. Being curled up with Negi. Seeing Carol when she could. These were all things ( Read more... )

Negi had a habit of sleeping with Katara those days and when she felt her shift and start to mumble and then cry, the young boy stirred and opened his eyes and blinked away sleep. "... nightmare," mumbled Negi, recalling his own experiences with people who had nightmares when they slept.

Gently wrapping his arms around her, he tried his best to soothe Katara's anguish.

Katara moaned, sniffing, then slowly opened her eyes, and felt that dull pain. Of course he wasn't here: she forgot. It was like a dagger in her heart to dream about him, waiting for all of those months only to leave another pod pop in quiet pain. Why did her mind have to betray her too, make her dream of being near him again? It just wasn't fair.

She felt arms around her waist, and looked up and saw Negi, and she managed a smile, wiping her eyes. "Sorry to wake you Negi, really. I was just...having a dream of someone..."

"No it's fine," soothed Negi as he hugged her to him like a little kid would. "He sounded important. Who is Aang?"

Katara returned the hug, and tears, which she'd already tried to hide, were coming anyway, so there wasn't much she could do about that. This would be a bit of a long story., but she could condense it as best she could.

"Aang is the last airbender in my world," she said, "But more than that, he is the Avatar. He's the descendant of other Avatars who could bend all of the elements and worked to keep balance in our world. He was the one to finally rid our world of the war that threatened everyone's well being, and finally defeat the tyranny of the fire lord. But more importantly, he is my best friend...and the only boy I have ever truly loved."

She sniffed, wiping her face. "I've been on this ship a long time, and it never made sense Aang wasn't brought here. A part of me keeps hoping that I'll see him again, but its been such a long time. And then I have these dreams where I see him, only to wake up and be without him. It hurts."

She tried to stay in the pod caverns. She did, but when her center of focus was constantly moving with the ship, it was part to say where she'd move to when she left a dream of one person.

Which was why she saw Katara, she immediately blipped back into the real world. She avoided dreams of the crew as much as she could and while she might stay to watch a nightmare, it was a different manner when it was an actual FRIEND. Especially a friend who knew what she could do.

Of course, doing that, she saw Katara WAS having a nightmare and she thought about going back in, but...

Well, it was better to talk to her first.

She looked around and looked at Katara. She held an intangible hand over her face, making an illusion of smelling salts to wake her up from the dream.

Katara stirred, wrinkling her nose, then sat straight up, sputtering. "Oh ew, what is that?" She wheezed, pinching her nose and waving her hand in front of her face. One moment she was dreaming of Aang, the next she was being overwhelmed by something stinky.

She rubbed her eyes, focusing. Well, there was a face she hadn't seen in awhile. Where had Selene been anyway?

"Selene? What are you doing here?" Katara asked, then turned red. Oh right, Selene could go into dreams, couldn't she? "Uh...I guess you kinda saw that, didn't you?"
