I'm curious what the two other Xmas movies were that you saw.

I loved The Golden Compass and read the first book before going (I have since read book 2 and am in the middle of book 3). I thought the adaptation was very well done. It's so good to hear from someone who hasn't read the books and to know what they thought of the various plot storylines, etc. Thanks for posting your review.

What did you think of the whole Christian controversy?

I'm a bit disappointed that the movie has apparently tried to downplay the anti-Christian themes, as I hear they are explicit points of the next few votes. Still, the themes were still there if you knew about them, and I have no problem with critiques on Christianity (lapsed Catholic that I am).

I didn't actually see any "Christmas" movies, but the two other movies I went to at Christmastime were Sweeney Todd, which I've already reviewed, and American Gangster, whose review is pending.

The two movies I have also seen, so I can comment on them if I have something relevant to say:)

Having now read the entire His Dark Materials Trilogy, i can now say, in good conscience, that there is way too much hoopalah about the whole God-is-dead and Phillip Pullman is an atheist-lets-boycott-his-books thing.

What did you think of Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter?
